We provided a couple of inflatables for the kids and gave out free food. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and offered chips, cookies, and drinks as well. The turn out was amazing! We served over 100 people from that area. The smiles on the kid's faces were priceless. They couldn't believe that they didn't have to pay to play or eat!
My neighbor Julie and I noticed that there were several elderly people sitting out on their porches so we started walking down the streets seeing if we could bring the food to them. I must say that through doing this we meet some very "fragile" people.
The picture above is of an elderly couple that we delivered food to. This is mother and son that live together. The son is deaf and has terminal cancer. He was given 36 months to live and has made it 12 months in. The mother tells us she prays daily for her son and she knows that God will take care of them.
This is another lady we took food to. She is 90 years old and is a cancer survivor. She hasn't left her home in 8 years. She doesn't know any of her neighbors but she told us that she did know and love the lord, despite the fact that she isn't able to get to church. She asked us to keep her in our prayers.
I can say that I left there feeling so fulfilled. I also took time to thank God for all that I have in life. I know that I am very blessed, and serving the people today reminded me that things could always be worse. It is now one of my personal goals to be more positive and thankful for all that I have.
